چکیده

Abstract: Empirically based modeling is an essential aspect of design for a wave energy converter. Empirically based models are used in structural, mechanical and control design processes, as well as for performance prediction. Both the design of experiments and methods used in system identification have a strong impact on the quality of the resulting model. This study considers the system identification and model validation process based on data collected from a wave tank test of a model-scale wave energy converter. Experimental design and data processing techniques based on general system identification procedures are discussed and compared with the practices often followed for wave tank testing. The general system identification processes are shown to have a number of advantages, including an increased signal-to-noise ratio, reduced experimental time and higher frequency resolution. The experimental wave tank data is used to produce multiple models using different formulations to represent the dynamics of the wave energy converter. These models are validated and their performance is compared against one another. While most models of wave energy converters use a formulation with surface elevation as an input, this study shows that a model using a hull pressure measurement to incorporate the wave excitation phenomenon has better accuracy.

Wave Tank Testing and Model Validation of an Autonomous Wave Energy Converter

A key component in bringing ocean wave energy converters from concept to commercialization is the building and testing of scaled prototypes to provide model validation. A one quarter scale prototype of an autonomous two body heaving point absorber was modeled, built, and tested for this work. Wave tank testing results are compared with two hydrodynamic and system models—implemented in both ANSY...

This paper, considers Network Failure Manufacturing System (NFPMS) and production control policy of unreliable multi-machines, multi-products with perishable items. The production control policy is based on the Hedging Point Policy (HPP). The important point in the simulation of this system is assumed that the customers who receive perishable item are placed in priority queue of the customers w...

Validation of Theoretical Performance Results using Wave Tank Testing of Heaving Point Absorber Wave Energy Conversion Device working against a Subsea Reaction Plate

The aim of this study was to validate different theoretical performance models using subscale wave tank tests. The device modeled is a heaving point absorber working against a submerged reaction plate. This type of device has been pursued by a number of commercial and is therefore relevant as a benchmark for future efforts on similar devices. A set of model tests were carried out at 1:33 scale ...

Heaving buoys, point absorbers and arrays.

Absorption of wave energy may be considered as a phenomenon of interference between incident and radiated waves generated by an oscillating object; a wave-energy converter (WEC) that displaces water. If a WEC is very small in comparison with one wavelength, it is classified as a point absorber (PA); otherwise, as a 'quasi-point absorber'. The latter may be a dipole-mode radiator, for instance a...
